MLB officials "won't say if Marge Schott's problems"
with a General Motors franchise will prevent her from
returning as Reds CEO at the end of this season, leaving
Reds Managing Exec John Allen "unsure of his status,"
according to Geoff Hobson of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER.
Allen: "I've been told nothing and I just as soon it would
stay that way. That's not my focus." While Schott is
eligible to return to the team at the end of this season,
she "is reportedly upset with how Allen has handled the job
and may oust him if she returns" (CIN. ENQUIRER, 3/12).
GOING UPSCALE AT THE BALLPARK: The MLB Rangers will
offer valet parking at The Ballpark this season. The team
plans to charge $20 a game for the service, but has yet to
decide if they will sell the service "in advance to well-
heeled fans, or offer it on a first-come, first-served
basis" (Leigh Strope, FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/12).
THE D'BACK SHUTTLE: A Phoenix City Council subcommittee
yesterday voted to earmark $124,000 from a special city fund
to pay for two shuttle-bus routes at Bank One Ballpark,
according to Mary Jo Pitzl of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The
service will cost $1 each way (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 3/12). In
Phoenix, E.J. Montini writes that the city, "in the nicest
possible way, should tell the Diamondbacks to establish
their own shuttle bus system" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 3/12).
