CASHING IN HIS BONDS: DENNIS GILBERT CALLS IT QUITS

DENNIS GILBERT, President of the Beverly Hills Sports Council (BHSC) is retiring after 15 years as a sports agent. The partners, JEFF BORRIS, RICK THURMAN, DANIEL HORWITS and DANIEL LOZANO will continue to represent Gilbert's clients. Gilbert's clients include BARRY BONDS, BOBBY BONILLA, JOSE CANSECO, RICKEY HENDERSON and MIKE PIAZZA (THE DAILY). Gilbert represented "more than 60" MLBers in his career and was ranked No. 24 on BASEBALL AMERICA's '97 Power Brokers list. Gilbert said that he felt "the time was right" to "re-evaluate everything," but that he "still will be involved with baseball." He his spending $300,000 to help pay for an L.A. baseball complex (BASEBALL AMERICA, 2/16).
