The Red Sox have sold more than one million tickets,
"putting them ahead of last year's pace, when they drew
2,221,136," according to Gordon Edes of the BOSTON GLOBE.
Approximately 60% of the ballpark capacity is taken by
season-ticket holders through various packages (BOSTON
GLOBE, 2/21). In Boston, Will McDonough reported that Rick
Pitino "has had an even greater impact" on the Celtics than
Red Sox P Pedro Martinez has had on his team. A year ago,
the Celtics sold out six games. At their present pace, they
will sell out between 25-27. They "are averaging 2,300 more
tickets per game than a year ago, which at a $42 average,
translates" into a $4M boost. Before Pitino, ownership
"thought it would lose almost 3,000 seats per game after"
last year's performance (BOSTON GLOBE, 2/21).
MORE: The Cubs estimated that 1,000 people waited for
individual tickets to go on sale early Friday morning at
Wrigley Field. Team Ticket Dir Frank Maloney: "Our numbers
aren't in yet. But we believe we're back to the early '90s
(pace) as far as first-day ticket sales. It's definitely
the biggest we've had since the ('94) strike" (CHICAGO
TRIBUNE, 2/21)....The Braves have sold 2,000 season tickets
for their home dates at their new spring training home,
Disney's Wide World of Sports (TORONTO SUN, 2/22).
