ORIOLES MAGIC ENDURES: TEAM'S SALES RUN AHEAD OF LAST YEAR

The Orioles had sold 2,748,772 tickets at the start of
business yesterday, about 80,000 more than at the same point
last year, according to Joe Strauss of the Baltimore SUN.
The response "suggests" that the team will eclipse last
season's record of 3,711,132 in attendance, despite
increasing some ticket prices by as much as $5. Team Vice
Chair/Business & Finance Joe Foss said that about 27,000 of
29,000 season-ticket holders have renewed. Club records for
'97 show that of the 4,500 accounts that control 18,000 full
season tickets, 90% are held by corporations. Approximately
17,000 accounts control the remaining 11,000 season tickets
available through mini-plans. Of those, 65% are held by
individuals (Joe Strauss, Baltimore SUN, 2/20).
