  • EVENT NEWS & NOTES: CONCACAF GOLD CUP FINAL DRAWS 91,255

              A crowd of 91,255 watched Mexico defeat the U.S. men's
         soccer team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup championship game
         Sunday at the L.A. Coliseum (MIAMI HERALD, 2/17).  In
         Boston, Frank Dell'Apa reported that a source said another
         10,000 also were admitted with counterfeit tickets.  In
         addition, 6,900 paid $20 to view the match on TV at the
         Sports Arena.  Total attendance for the two-week event in
         three cities was about 300,000 (BOSTON GLOBE, 2/16).
              JUST FOR KICKS: The Brasil World Tour, presented by
         Nike Sports Entertainment, will make its first stop in
         Europe March 25 in Stuttgart, Germany, where Brasil will
         play Germany.  ESPN serves as the exclusive distribution
         agent (Nike Sports Entertainment)....San Jose State Univ.
         has been named the site for the '99 and 2000 semifinals and
         final of the NCAA D-I Women's Soccer Championship (NCAA).
              BEISBOL: MLB International's first-ever Baseball
         Festival in Latin America drew about 55,000 fans over a
         four-day period from February 5-8.  The festival -- held in
         Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela -- was presented by MLBI and the
         Caribbean Series with Maltin Polar as the title sponsor. 
         Other sponsors included Pepsi, MasterCard, Banco Provinciao,
         and Televen, MLBI's broadcast partner in Venezuela (MLBI).  
              TENNIS, ANYONE? The Nuveen Tour is turning to Pistons G
         Joe Dumars "to freshen its Detroit area tournament."  Dumars
         is combining his charity tennis tournament with the Nuveen
         Tour to create the Mentadent Joe Dumars Champions.  Under
         the new format, MI-based Sports Management Network, which
         reps Dumars, will house the marketing and promotion of this
         year's tournament (CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS, 2/9 issue).
