COLUMBUS VOTE GOES AGAINST THIS CREW: STADIUM MEASURE FAILS

Dublin, OH, voters Tuesday "overwhelmingly rejected a
plan to build a soccer stadium," leaving the MLS Crew's
future "uncertain," according to Jeff Ortega of the COLUMBUS
DISPATCH. Unofficial totals showed the issue failing 59%-
     41%. The proposal would have placed a 25,000-seat, $26M
soccer stadium in Dublin. Crew Majority Owner Lamar Hunt,
who would have developed the facility, said that the defeat
"doesn't mean the team ... will necessarily leave Ohio."
The Crew currently plays in Ohio State Univ.'s Ohio Stadium,
but "will have to move" after this season due to renovations
(COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 2/11). In Columbus, Craig Merz wrote
that Columbus "was being counted on to be the trailblazer
for the soccer stadiums many in MLS say they believe are
vital to the long-term success" of the league. MLS
Commissioner Doug Logan, on the vote: "I'm clearly
     disappointed. ... I don't know if it's any more a statement
for or against the league than any other public-private
partnership in the past that failed" (DISPATCH, 2/11).
