HEARD THIS BEFORE? FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHANGES LONGTIME CARRIER

TSN has landed exclusive rights to the CFL for the next
five seasons, in a deal "believed to be worth" $35M,
according to Rob Longley of the TORONTO SUN. TSN will show
a minimum of 50 games this season, up from 41 in '97.
Longley reports that although TSN owns the rights to playoff
games, including the Grey Cup, "it will attempt to sell off
the post-season package to a conventional network," adding
that incumbent carrier CBC "will be a front-runner because
TSN will not want to deal with CTV, which will debut a rival
sports network next fall" (TORONTO SUN, 2/11). The CFL had
been on CBC for the past 45 years (GLOBE & MAIL, 2/11).
