ARE MARLINS FANS LEYLAND ON A JET PLANE? FISH SALES LAGGING

With less than two months before opening day, the
Marlins' season-ticket sales "are lagging well behind last
season," sources tell Barry Jackson of the MIAMI HERALD.
One "baseball source" said that he understands the Marlins
had sold fewer than 9,000 season tickets as of late January.
The Marlins, who sold 16,500 season tickets last season,
refused to confirm or deny that figure. Jackson reports
that in "a departure from previous club policy," the Marlins
will not disclose their season ticket count before the
season starts (MIAMI HERALD, 2/10). In accepting the ESPY
Award as the Coach/Manager of the Year, Marlins Manager Jim
Leyland said, "The ESPY people at ESPN informed us when we
got in if you were lucky enough to win an award, you had 30
seconds to give your acceptance speech. We traded 12
players in 30 seconds since the World Series" (ESPN, 2/10).
