TURNSTILE TRACKER: CHARTING COLLEGE BOWL ATTENDANCE

          The following lists tickets distributed as announced by
     the bowl games on the '97-98 schedule (THE DAILY).  In Fort
     Worth, Wendell Barnhouse wrote: "Lots of fans at this
     season's bowl games came disguised as empty seats."  Of the
     21 bowls, four were sellouts: the Rose, Orange, Citrus and
     Independence.  The Sugar Bowl had its second-lowest crowd
     since moving to the Superdome in '75.  The Carquest Bowl
     "led the way" with 48,732 empty seats, while the inaugural
     Motor City Bowl had 37,298 empty seats and the Gator Bowl
     had 22,926 empty seats (FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 1/3).
