MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          MA-based Woolf Associates signed three players eligible
     for the NFL draft: Univ. of MI's Chris Howard and Chris
     Floyd and OK State's Andre Richardson.  The three will be
     represented by Woolf VP Andrew Brandt and Dir of Football
     Michael Godbolt (Woolf)....Over 25,000 votes were cast for a
     Super Bowl commercial poll featured on ESPN SportsZone.  A-B
     was the "landslide winner" with more than 17,000 votes. 
     Other spots in the top 10 included Lipton Brisk and AT&T
     (N.Y. TIMES, 1/28)....NY-based WPI Advertising will handle
     the NBA Jam Session account for All-Star Weekend.  It will
     be responsible for all media buys, multi-media promos,
     retail tie-ins and ticket giveaways (WPI)....New Balance
     took out ads in western editions of USA Today earlier this
     week and "boasted it has steered clear of hiring 'famous,
     and sometimes infamous, athletes,' to promote its products." 
     The ads were "timed to appear on the eve" of Latrell
     Sprewell's grievance hearing. New Balance does not feature
     athlete endorsers in its advertising, and its Global Dir of
     Advertising John Donovan said, "We thought the time was
     right to raise this issue" (AP/BOSTON GLOBE, 1/27).
