DOROTHY WILL HAVE A FEELING SHE'S NOT IN INDIANA ANYMORE

Bryant Gumbel will contribute to CBS Sports' coverage
of the Nagano Olympics, providing special reports during the
second week. Also, CBS' "Late Show" will deploy "The
Hendersons," the husband and wife team of "Late Show" stage
manager Biff Henderson to Nagano. David Letterman's mom,
Dorothy, will also file a series of spots from Nagano (CBS).
MORE FROM THE EYE: CBS Sports Olympic Producer Rick
Gentile said he believes "late-night Olympic hockey will
reach a wider audience than the NHL ever has, with higher
ratings than the Stanley Cup," according to USA TODAY's
Michael Hiestand. In other news, Gentile said that the 14-
hour time difference between Japan and the U.S. will allow
the net "to carry live shots in prime time, at least on the
USA's East Coast, of the opening ceremony and various
events." Gentile added that CBS "will try to let actual
Games' action rearrange its TV schedule" (USA TODAY, 1/28).
CBS will not use the Olympics "as a platform to trumpet" the
NFL's return to the network. CBS Sports President Sean
McManus: "We'll do some promos for the NFL, but the sports
thrust will be toward the Daytona 500, The Masters and the
NCAA Tournament" (ATL. CONSTITUTION, 1/28). U.S. Olympic G
Mike Richter has "rejected" CBS' plan to install a mini
camera in his helmet (USA TODAY, 1/28).
