IS WEBBER STILL A WANTED WIZARD ON MADISON AVENUE?

One week after Chris Webber's arrest for assault and
marijuana possession, "there remains the question of just
how much damage it did to Webber's stature in the NBA and
marketability beyond the league," according to Ric Bucher of
the WASHINGTON POST. Bucher writes that Webber "still could
be an all-star, but he can forget about being a highly paid
spokesman." Burns Sports Celebrity Service President Robert
Williams said that while Webber "was definitely headed in
the right direction" his arrest "really puts the brakes on
that." Williams: "Timing is almost everything and,
unfortunately for Chris, this comes at a very inopportune
time. The climate right now for endorsements is not great
in general." FCB analyst Bob Dorfman said that after the
arrest, Webber's deals probably are "limited to shoes, video
games and anything music-related" (WASHINGTON POST, 1/27).
