LEASE DETAILS SHOW OHIO CITY MUST PAY FOR USE OF MLS FACILITY

The proposed 25-year lease between the city of Dublin,
OH, and the Hunt Sports Group, majority owner of the MLS
Crew, which would construct a 30,000-seat stadium in Dublin,
was obtained by Jeff Ortega of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. A
referendum on the facility will be held February 10. In the
proposal, the city "would acquire and annex the nearly 200-
acre site and lease the land" to Hunt Sports. The city would
have the right to use the site for up to ten community events
annually "for a minimum" of $62,500 per year. But the city
would "have to pay the minimum rent even if it held no
community events at the facility." Other aspects of the
lease: Hunt Sports will pay $10 a year in rent to the city
for the land; no more than five nonathletic events annually
may be held during the first five years of the deal; Hunt
Sports would establish a fund for repairs and maintenance at
     the facility (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 1/20).
