STOP, OR SLY WILL SHOOT! STALLONE TO PLAY WITH MR. TIGER?
Published December 9, 1997
Jeff Gordon and Sylvester Stallone are "stepping in to
replace" Michael Jordan and Kevin Costner as participants in
the "Tiger & Friends" golf special on CBS, according to
Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK. Ken Griffey Jr. will complete
the foursome, and "other celebs" will provide holiday
greetings in commercial spots. AmEx, GM, Burger King and
Pepsi have all "purchased prime positions" for the show,
which will be taped Thursday and will air Christmas Day.
IMG's TWI will produce and manage the event (BRANDWEEK,
12/8). But "The Forecaddie" in GOLFWEEK reports that Gordon,
Griffey and Will Smith will participate, but it did not have
confirmation from Smith's camp (GOLFWEEK, 12/6).
IN THE SAC: The 2000 U.S. Olympic Track and Field
Trials, awarded last week to Sacramento, could bring the
city an economic windfall "rang[ing] from" $5-10M, according
to Bob Burns of the SACRAMENTO BEE. The Trials will be held
July 14-23, 2000 at Sacramento State (SACRAMENTO BEE, 12/7).
