AIR JORDAN AND TIN CUP REPORTEDLY OUT AS FRIENDS FOR TIGER
Published December 2, 1997
Michael Jordan and Kevin Costner, who, along with Ken
Griffey Jr., reportedly were to play against Tiger Woods in
the tentatively titled "Tiger & Friends" golf event, "will
not participate," according to GOLF WEEK. A spokesperson
for David Falk, Jordan's agent, said that Jordan "never
committed to the event and does not play in golf tournaments
during the NBA season." A spokesperson at Costner's agency,
Stephen Rivers & Associates, "confirmed" that the actor
"will not play either." Calls to IMG, which organized the
tournament, "were not returned" and there was "no word"
regarding possible replacements. GOLF WEEK adds that
without Jordan and Costner, the "star appeal" of the event,
which is slated for taping December 11 and will air
Christmas Day on CBS, is "a bit lacking" (GOLF WEEK, 11/29).
