FRANCHISE NOTES

NFL: A record crowd of 77,571 attended the Redskins-
Giants game at Giants Stadium on Saturday. There were only
419 unused tickets (HARTFORD COURANT, 12/14)....The Rams set
a single-season home attendance record Sunday night, with
66,030 tickets distributed for the Bears game. The Rams
totaled 518,468 fans for their eight home games, topping the
previous mark of 500,403 set in '80. Sunday's game also
marked the team's 24th consecutive home sellout, a franchise
record (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 12/15)....Vikings President
Roger Headrick confirmed that February 1 -- the beginning of
the team's fiscal year -- is the date by which he would like
to complete the sale of the team (STAR TRIBUNE, 12/13).
TAKING STOCK OF THE PACKERS: ESPN's Chris Mortensen
reported that Mark Chmura bought a $200 share of the
franchise "just to say he's a part-owner" ("SportsCenter,"
12/13). In his parting shot, ESPN's Dick Schaap called the
stock sale "the biggest rip-off in the history of sports.
... The stock costs $200 a share, the stock certificate
costs another $15, and both of them are worthless. ... Not
only is it a huge rip-off, but the prospectus for the stock
sales tells every would be purchaser that it's a rip-off --
that if you want to make money, this isn't the way to do it.
How could anyone be so dumb to buy a share? That's what my
wife keeps asking me" ("The Sports Reporters," ESPN, 12/14)
