HOPE FOR ALL THE SMALL CITIES WHO NEVER GOT THE CHANCE

          The International Basketball Federation (FIBA)
announced Sunday that Indianapolis has been awarded the 2002
FIBA World Championships for Men (USA Basketball). In
Indianapolis, Bill Benner reports that the event was awarded
to the city over Tokyo and a "consortium of German cities,
including Berlin." Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith
called the announcement a "great victory" for his city and
promised "a spectacular event," which will hope to draw 50-
75,000 visitors and have an "estimated economic impact
     exceeding $50 million" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 12/1).
