NHL AND CBC TO ANNOUNCE NEW CANADIAN BROADCAST AGREEMENT

          The CBC will announce today a "huge" broadcasting
     agreement with the NHL that will keep "Hockey Night in
     Canada" on the air until at least 2001, according to William
     Houston of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL.  CBC will pay the
     league between C$180-$200M for national TV rights over four
     years, beginning next season.  Sources tell Houston that TSN
     and the NHL will announce a cable agreement "shortly,"
     expected to be C$40-$50M over four years (Toronto GLOBE &
     MAIL, 11/12).  Bloomberg Sports is reporting that the NHL's
     new deal with the CBC and John Labatt Ltd., which is taking
     over sponsorship of "Hockey Night in Canada" from Molson,
     will be worth $266.8M over five years (USA TODAY, 11/12).
