THE BLUE JACKET INSECT BEATS THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IN COLUMBUS

          In Columbus, NHL team officials announced yesterday
     that the city's expansion franchise will be named the Blue
     Jackets.  The primary logo depicts the bug "Stinger,"
     complete with wings, antennae and clenched teeth.  "Stinger" 
     is outfitted with a blue coat featuring stars on the collar
     and a cap reminiscent of the Civil War (Blue Jackets).  In
     Columbus, Brent LaLonde reports that a secondary logo
     features "a star-studded red ribbon unfurled in the shape of
     the team's initials, CB, with a lime-green hockey stick
     cutting through the center to represent the J."  JMAC
     President John Christie described the team's primary colors
     as federal blue and patriotic red "and noted the lime green
     is unique to pro sports."  Majority Owner John McConnell
     said that of the 10 potential team names submitted by team
     owners to the NHL, the league sent back two choices -- Blue
     Jackets and Justice (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 11/12).
