BIG FOOTBALL CROWDS NOT LINING UP AT TERRAPIN STATION

Univ. of MD's football ticket sales "will fall about
$700,000 below budget projections," according to Paul
McMullen of the Baltimore SUN. The school is currently
averaging 28,374 for its football games, down from last
     year's 29,559 average. The school's revenue projections
"have taken a beating," as the AD made $350,000 less on
ticket sales than it anticipated in '96, and that figure
"could double" this year. The addition of a sixth home game
led the school to project $2.3M in ticket revenue, but
actual sales will be closer to $1.6M. McMullen wrote that
the "largest impact" on ticket sales is "likely" the 85,000
NFL seats that have been added to the Baltimore-Washington
market over the past 15 months. MD AD Debbie Yow: "There
are an incredible number of football tickets being sold in
this region that weren't two years ago (SUN, 10/29).
