In the last six years, the Washington and Baltimore
area has gone from having no club seats in its sports
facilities to having "more than" 31,000 by next fall with
Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, the Ravens' new facility and MCI
Arena, according to Eric Fisher of the WASHINGTON TIMES.
Jack Kent Cooke Stadium features 15,000 club seats, but
"about" 3,000 of those seats remained unsold on opening day.
While team officials say they "expect to sell" the seats by
season's end, those empty seats, along with "about" 1,000
empty club seats at the new MCI Center, "have put a
spotlight" on the area's new premium seats. Club seats at
the three new facilities range from $92 to nearly $400 a
game, with leases ranging from three to 10 years. At the
MCI Center, opening in December, the club level "remains a
little more than half" sold; however, the Ravens "quickly
sold out" its club level "in part because of the smaller
number of seats available" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 10/27)
CAPITAL MOVES: Abe Pollin's Washington Sports will rent
office space across the street from the new MCI Center. The
office will "supplement" Washington Sports' main Landover,
MD, office, and will house up to 100 members of the teams'
administrative staffs (WASHINGTON TIMES, 10/27).
