ROCKETS LOOK TO MUSCLE THEIR WAY INTO A DEAL WITH COMPAQ

The Rockets "want their own deal" with Compaq Computer
Corp. before the team will drop its opposition to renaming
The Summit after the company, according to John Williams of
the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Rockets Senior Exec VP John Thomas
said that Compaq officials "contacted" the team last week
about "striking a separate deal with the team," and that the
Rockets would like the Houston City Council to "again
postpone" a vote on the agreement so the team's deal "can be
finalized." City Agenda Dir Dan Jones said that Mayor Bob
Lanier "will ask" the council to postpone today's vote "for
another week," and Jones said that waiting another week
"will not hurt" the city's deal. Thomas added that the team
recently completed its corporate sponsorship with Hewlett-
     Packard (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/21).
