  • EXECUTIVE TRANSACTIONS

              TRACEY WILLIAMS was promoted to VP/Basketball Ops and
         Player Personnel of the ABL.  Williams was Dir of Basketball
         Ops and Player Personnel (ABL)....SI President DON ELLIMAN
         named a two-man team to head up the magazine's sales and
         marketing departments.  FABIO FREYRE has been named
         Associate Publisher/Nat'l Advertising Sales Dir, and JOHN
         JAY, Publisher/Marketing Director since '93, will continue
         to oversee SI's expanding marketing efforts (SI).

  • NAMES IN THE NEWS

              The Pistons' GRANT HILL, along with actors TOM CRUISE
         and DAVID DUCHOVNY, appears on the cover of GQ's November
         "Men of the Year" issue ("Extra," 10/16).....Under its
         "Portrait of World Power," VANITY FAIR lists "the 65 men and
         women who shape and rule the world today."  Included were GE
         Chair JACK WELCH, News Corp. Chair RUPERT MURDOCH, Nike
         Chair PHIL KNIGHT and Disney Chair MICHAEL EISNER (VANITY
         FAIR, 11/97 issue)....HALORY HUNTER, a two-year-old horse
         owned by Celtics Coach RICK PITINO, will race at Belmont
         Park tomorrow in what could be "the first important step on
         the road to the Triple Crown" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/17).
         ...MARTINA HINGIS announced the donation of over $800,000 to
         the World Health Organization's Expanded Program on
         Immunization (Corel WTA Tour)....AZ sports leaders RICHARD
         BURKE, BILL BIDWILL and JERRY COLANGELO are profiled in the
         September/October issue of ARIZONA BUSINESS (AZ BUSINESS,
         10-11/97)....USTA Dir. of Multicultural Development RODNEY
         HARMON is profiled in TENNIS magazine.  Harmon, on his job
         description: "My priority in a broad sense is to look at
         everything the USTA does -- be it national teams,
         recreational leagues, advertising, marketing, whatever --
         and make sure all cultures are being properly represented
         and their concerns properly addressed" (TENNIS, 11/97).
