NHL OILERS' WEAK TV SIGNAL MEANS RURAL FANS MAY BE SHUT OUT

"Angry" NHL Oilers fans are phoning the team "in droves
over a glitch in [TV] coverage that prevents many rural fans
from seeing the games," according to a CP report in the
EDMONTON JOURNAL. Fledgling TV station A-Channel has the
rights to Oilers games this season, but the station's signal
travels "less than 50 kilometres outside of Edmonton." The
Oilers are trying to help negotiate agreements between the
new station and cable operators within Alberta to expand
game coverage. The A-Channel launched two new stations in
Edmonton and Calgary last week and has been "plagued by
audio and video problems." A-Channel GM Jim Haskins: "Some
Oilers fans are concerned that they may not be able to see
their team." A-Channel is planning to show 26 Oilers games
     this season (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 9/25).
