Gordon Crabtree, SLOC's Senior VP/Finance &
Administration, said that he "really did quit for personal
reasons -- and because his new boss added to the already
intense pressure of overseeing" the $1B+ budget for the 2002
Winter Olympics, according to Lisa Riley Roche of the
DESERET NEWS. However, in his first public statements about
his "surprise" resignation, Crabtree "stopped short" of
"blaming" new SLOC President & CEO Frank Joklik. Crabtree:
"I know what a lot of people are saying, the change with the
new CEO is what created it. Certainly, the truth is that
puts stress and tension on everyone. ... This really ended
up being an opportunity to walk away." Crabtree forfeited
his $197,000-plus annual salary and $27,000 annual pension
when he resigned. Also on Wednesday, Stephanie Pate, who
had been former SLOC President & CEO Tom Welch's secretary
before being promoted last year to Dir of Sponsor Services,
"resigned for personal reasons" (DESERET NEWS, 9/11).
INTERIM: Jerry McClain, a former partner at Ernst &
Young, will serve as acting CFO until a permanent
replacement for Crabtree is found (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 9/12).
