WPVA AIMS TO BROADEN BRAND IN DEAL WITH MANAGEMENT PLUS

The WPVA signed an "exclusive marketing agreement" on
Wednesday with Leonard Armato's Management Plus, according
to Randy Harvey of the L.A. TIMES. WPVA President Dave
Williams said that part of the reason for the deal was that
"the timing is right for all women's sports to receive more
exposure because of the WNBA's success" (L.A. TIMES, 9/11).
BABY STEPS: Nike Sports Entertainment spokesperson Tom
Feuer, on the '97 World Championships of Beach Volleyball at
UCLA and the FIVB/AVP temporary truce: "If beach volleyball
truly wants to become a major league sport, it's inevitable
that they'll have to combine the two. ... This has been a
huge step, more so than the Olympics" (THE DAILY).
