DESPITE DROP IN ATTENDANCE, MLS' LOGAN REMAINS BUOYANT

MLS Commissioner Doug Logan was a guest on CNNfn's
"Sports Inc." yesterday. Logan, asked if MLS' expectations
were "too lofty" in its second year: "A real measure of
success normally is in the third year because you suffer a
falloff in the second year, and then the real world is
introduced sometime around the third. We've done very, very
well in our second season. We're not at all embarrassed or
ashamed of our attendance levels of around 15,000 for this
year. ... [T]he play has been significantly better than it
was last year." Logan, asked if MLS has been "overshadowed"
by the WNBA this summer: "[T]hey did a terrific job, and now
they will also suffer the curse of a successful first
season." Logan, on sponsorships: "Universally, our sponsors
are very happy from top to bottom. We're looking to sell
two or three more major categories next year" (CNNfn, 9/10).
