ESPN CHILTON SPORTS POLL: MID-YEAR REVIEW OF PRO TENNIS

          ESPN Chilton Sports Poll conducted more than 9,000
     phone interviews from independent random samples of the U.S.
     population from January-June '97 and 2,000 in July '97 on
     tennis.  In '96, 15,000 interviews were conducted; 18,000
     were done in '95.  Results are as follows: 
          
          ^ In July '97, 52.4% of all males 18-44 in household
     incomes of $50,000+ were fans of tennis.
          ^ The avid fan level base has remained at 6% over the
     last three years.
          ^ 36% of Americans were fans throughout '95, similar to
     the first half on '97.
          ^ 1.5% of Americans view tennis as their favorite
     sport.
          ^ Roughly 27% of Americans are interested in men's
     tennis; approximately 26% are interested in women's tennis.
