IMPROVING REGIONAL TV BROADCASTS AMONG DRYDEN'S FIRST QUESTS

Maple Leafs President Ken Dryden "is unhappy with the
quality" of Leafs' TV and radio broadcasts "and is doing
something about it," according to Ken McKee of the TORONTO
STAR. Dryden named his assistant, Bill Watters, to head a
new broadcast committee, and will "challenge producers of
the regional broadcasts" to seek ways to improve coverage.
While Dryden "accepts" that Molstar, the production company
for Global and Hamilton's ONtv, has less money to spend than
CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, he says "there is no reason a
lower-budget program should appear low budget." Dryden, who
likes "the precociousness" of Fox's coverage, is seeking to
attract a younger audience and wants more experimentation
with camera angles, including testing an aerial camera that
moves alongside play (TORONTO STAR, 8/22).
