COORS HEADS FOR THE ROCKIES: OPTS OUT OF SILVER BULLETS DEAL

Coors Brewing Co., "which has invested a reported $8
million in the Colorado Silver Bullets women's baseball
team, is terminating its role as chief sponsor," according
to Dina Bunn of the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS. Coors spokesperson
Dave Taylor said that the company is focusing more on its
"core business" as the nation's third-largest brewer and
"future sponsorships will reflect that." Taylor: "For
baseball, that translates into Coors Field, the Rockies and
the hometown. The decision has nothing to do with the
Silver Bullets or management." Taylor added that Coors "is
willing to help" the team find another lead sponsor. The
team's secondary sponsors include Pepsi-Cola, Ocean Spray,
Lifetime Television, the Women's Sports Foundation, MLB,
Reebok and GM. With a sponsor change, "the team may change
its recognizable name" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 8/22).
IT'S A WOMEN'S MARKET: In Providence, Mike Szostak
     profiles the $10B per-year women's sports market. Women's
Sports Marketing Group President Sharon Barbano: "The men's
market is saturated. What we have is a virgin market, if
you will. It's time to get companies excited. Companies
that are meeting the demands are finding that it's lucrative
and business is growing (JOURNAL-BULLETIN, 8/22).
