          KATARINA WITT was featured on "Access Hollywood."  Witt
     can be seen modeling in the current Live magazine.  Witt, on
     her acting and modeling appearances: "Skating is still my
     main profession, and luckily, I don't depend on the other
     things, so it's not like, 'I want to make it, I want to make
     it.'  I'm just doing it for fun" ("Access Hollywood," 8/19).
     ...NFL Commissioner PAUL TAGLIABUE underwent back surgery
     yesterday to repair a herniated disk, and is expected to be
     back at work next week (N.Y. TIMES, 8/20)....The Red Sox' MO
     VAUGHN has contributed $50,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of
     Boston, and "intends to donate" another $50,000 (BOSTON
     GLOBE, 8/20)....JOHN MCENROE, on tennis player ANNA
     KOURNIKOVA: "If she dominates the tennis circuit as well as
     she dominated (Jay) Leno on 'The Tonight Show,' she'll be
     alright" (THE DAILY)....Among investors in a group that is
     buying the Pacific Coast League AAA Phoenix Firebirds are
     JASON KIDD, CHRISTIAN LAETTNER and BRENT, JON and SCOOTER
     BARRY (BASEBALL AMERICA, 9/1 issue)....The Colorado Springs
     GAZETTE TELEGRAPH reported that SHEILA WALKER and JOHN
     LEFEVRE are finalists to replace Exec Dir Jerry Lace as the
     U.S. Figure Skating Assoc.  Lace will retire after the '98
     Olympics (COLORADO SPRINGS GAZETTE-TELEGRAPH, 8/19)....JERRY
     COLANGELO is among investors in a children's TV show
     tentatively titled, 24/7.com, which will resemble MTV's
     "Road Rules" series.  It will be produced by AZ-based
     Character TV Productions for KSAZ-TV in Phoenix.  Among
     those to appear for a "mentor segment" are TROY AIKMAN,
     SHAQUILLE O'NEAL, KEVIN JOHNSON, EMMITT SMITH and KERRI
     STRUG (PHOENIX BUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/18).
