IS THERE A BATTLE OF THE NEW STADIUMS IN THE MID-ATLANTIC?

Redskins officials "insist" that the new Jack Kent
Cooke Stadium will open on time for their September 14 home
opener, according to Jon Morgan of the Baltimore SUN.
During a media tour of the facility yesterday, Todd Boyan,
Dir of Game Day Personnel & Ops, "admitted" that the stadium
doesn't look ready for 78,000 fans, but he said the
finishing touches now being installed were "intentionally"
left for last (Baltimore SUN, 8/20). In a sidebar, Morgan
compares the Redskins' new complex near Landover, MD, and
the Ravens' field under construction downtown. Morgan: "The
two stadiums, set to open a year apart, have little in
common other than 100-yard fields. Everything from the
architecture to the price tag to the construction schedule
is as different as, well, Baltimore and Washington"
(Baltimore SUN, 8/20). In DC, columnist Michael Wilbon, who
attended the Redskins stadium tour, writes: "I've been to
every NFL stadium in the league multiple times and I can say
with absolutely no reservation that the interior of JKC
Stadium is right there with those of Ericsson Stadium, Texas
Stadium and Giants Stadium as being as good as it's going to
get for viewing pleasure and amenities. But I can't say the
same thing about the exterior" (WASHINGTON POST, 8/20).
