SALT LAKE YET TO SEARCH FOR LEADER OF 2002 WINTER GAMES

Nearly three weeks after Tom Welch resigned as SLOC
President, Olympic organizers haven't started the search for
his permanent replacement, according to Lisa Riley Roche of
the DESERET NEWS. The SLOC Board of Trustees "have yet to
even decide how to go about filling the job." SLOC Board
Member Ken Bullock: "It's a concern. We're not getting on
with finding a replacement for Tom." But SLOC non-voting
Board Member Stan Parrish wants a "management review" done
to see if a President/CEO are necessary. Riley Roche wrote
that interim President Frank Joklik "is considered the top
candidate" to replace Welch (DESERT NEWS, 8/17). A DESERET
NEWS editorial said SLOC "needs a great ... organizer, one
who not only knows the long and storied history of the
Olympic movement but also which parts of that history
should, and should not, be repeated" (DESERET NEWS, 8/19).
