STADIUM NOTES

Promoters of a Minneapolis referendum on stadium
spending limits announced Monday that they have gathered
3,500 new signatures, enough to place the issue on a
November ballot (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/19)....The
Tigers "are close" to signing a contract for about $500,000
with the MI Minority Business Development Council "to ensure
that minority-owned companies get a chance to work on the
new stadium" (DETROIT NEWS, 8/18)....In an apparent change
of plans by Boston Garden Owner Delaware North, which "had
said it hoped to leave" the demolition of the Garden to the
facility's next owner, the company informed the MA Bay
Transit Authority that it "intends to immediately commence
to demolish the existing Garden" (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/19).
