Fox Sports West 2 (FSW2) has "stepped up its attack on
Century Cable, unleashing waves of airplanes with Century-
bashing banners" over Dodger Stadium, and "sending out
battalions of billboard trucks" on L.A.'s West Side,
according to Scott Hettrick of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.
Hettrick notes the move is "part of the escalation of FSW2's
tactical strategy to wage a battle of intimidation by
inciting Century's subscribers to respond to Century's
refusal to add FSW2" to their cable lineup. FSW2 in on all
"major cable systems" in L.A., except on Warner, Comcast and
Century, which represent "about 1 million subscribers
combined." While the other two are believed to be "close to
an agreement," talks with Century "broke off last week."
But with FSW's "leverage peaking as the Dodgers' remain in a
battle for a playoff berth ... FSW2 is waging an all-out
attack." Century Divisional VP Joe DiBacco said that the
"attack" is "lost on him" since FSW2 has "only" eight
Dodgers telecasts left. Hettrick adds that Century "has
complained" that FSW2 was charging operators too high of a
subscriber fee (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 8/13).
