SURF ON YOUR OWN TIME: EMPLOYERS CRACK DOWN ON SPORTS SITES
Published July 8, 1997
Organizations are increasingly "blocking or monitoring
employees' access to Web sites considered to be
unproductive, and sports sites rank near the top of that
list," according to David Sweet of the WALL STREET JOURNAL.
Sweet writes that is "bad news for the two most popular Web
sports sites, ESPN SportsZone and CBS SportsLine, which bank
on bored workers scanning their pages." SportsLine USA
VP/Marketing Kenneth Dotson says about half of SportsLine's
visitors use company networks, as "the site's peak time on
weekdays is during work hours" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 7/7).
