CBS SPORTS EXTENDS DEAL WITH PGA CHAMPIONSHIP THROUGH 2005
Published July 8, 1997
CBS Sports has reached a new deal with the PGA to
extend broadcast rights of the PGA Championship through
2005. CBS has aired the event since '91 (CBS). In N.Y.,
Richard Sandomir puts the seven-year deal at "about" $10M
annually (N.Y. TIMES, 7/8). A source "familiar with the
situation" told the AP that CBS paid the PGA "twice as much
per year for the tournament under the new contract, pushing
the seven-year deal to" $30M. A second source called that
figure "a bit low, but very close" (WASHINGTON POST, 7/8).
