SPURS TO LAUNCH P.R. CAMPAIGN PUSHING FOR JANUARY ARENA VOTE
Published July 8, 1997
The Spurs, "seeking to overcome a lack of taxpayer
support for a new arena, plan to launch a public-relations
campaign after Labor Day that they hope leads to a new"
$120M facility, according to Travis Poling of the SAN
ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. Spurs officials hope to see a measure
for public funding on a January 17 ballot. San Antonio
Mayor Howard Peak said that he is awaiting a financial
proposal from the Spurs and other parties involved in the
arena push. Peak: "Under the right circumstances I could be
an advocate" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 7/5).
WE'RE BACK, BABY! After the drafting of Tim Duncan,
Spurs officials "are pushing to increase ticket sales."
Spurs billboards in the city are proclaiming "Now, we're
Back. Act today!" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 7/5).
