MAGIC EYE RENOVATION PLANS; QUESTIONS ON WHO WILL PAY TAB
Published July 8, 1997
Renovations to the Orlando Arena could cost $50M, "but
how much of the tab taxpayers or the [Magic] pick up has not
been decided," according to Dan Tracy of the ORLANDO
SENTINEL. Among renovation options are: Installing a new
food court; Building an undetermined number of midlevel
suites along the lower bowl; Taking out some lower-bowl
seats and replacing them with larger ones. The SENTINEL's
Tracy writes that city officials, "while open to
suggestions, are wary of the mid-level suites and club
seating because they could reduce the lower-level capacity
for other events, such as financially lucrative concerts."
That would cut revenue to the city, which makes most of its
arena money on non-athletic events (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 7/7).
