FIREWORKS WON'T BE THE ONLY LIGHT AT NEXT YEAR'S PEPSI 400
Published July 8, 1997
Daytona International Speedway (DIS) officials
announced "construction will begin immediately on installing
the 'largest lighting project in the entire world,' designed
to illuminate the 2.5-mile tri-oval course," according to
Godwin Kelly of the Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL. DIS
President John Graham said the system will cost "between"
$3-5M, and will be installed by IA-based Musco Lighting of
Muscatine, the same company that handled the Charlotte Motor
Speedway (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 7/5). The '98 Pepsi
400 will run July 4 and be carried by CBS, making it the
first Winston Cup event televised in prime time by a
broadcast network (Tony Fabrizio, FL TIMES-UNION, 7/5).
