ROCKIES CONTINUE LEGAL SPAR OVER WEB NAME WITH CO PUBLISHER

The Rockies "have filed court papers aimed at
preventing" Denver Internet publisher Robert Lewis from
using the Rockies trademark, colors, logo or any name, mark
or language "that could potentially cause readers confusion
about the origin of the content," according to Leyla Kokmen
of the DENVER POST. That includes using the domain name
"rockies.com" without a "prominent disclaimer" of any
connection with the franchise. The papers were filed in
Denver District Court Monday against Lewis and his company,
Storefronts in Cyberspace, which publishes the CO Tourism &
Sport site at www.rockies.com. The papers ask that Lewis be
prevented from using the name "Daily Rockies Web" on the
site. On the site, currently known as "Colorado Baseball
Daily" at www.blakestreet.com, Lewis publishes articles and
ticket information on the team. Lewis has a lawsuit against
the Rockies, which is set for a December trial. He is
charging that the team "intimidated Rocky Mountain Internet
into dropping Lewis' Rockies newsletter and other websites,"
and is seeking $250,000 in the lawsuit (DENVER POST, 7/30).
Today, the site's front page alleges that the Rockies are
"harassing Colorado Baseball Daily" (THE DAILY).
