FILA TAKING TIME OUT FOR CHRIS WEBBER ADVERTISING BLITZ

Fila is unveiling its latest endorser, the Wizards'
Chris Webber, in a $4M ad push in the month of August
"alone," according to Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK. Webber's
endorsement of Fila's new $85 Flying Fortress shoes debuts
with a co-op effort with FootAction. A separate "branding
statement" from agency FCB, NY, "showcases Webber's
iconoclasm, as well as his new shoes." The FootAction spot,
from DDB Needham, Dallas, has Webber dunking a basketball on
a hoop attached to the Washington monument, while the black
and white FCB spot has Webber playing basketball. Buys were
made on ESPN, BET and MTV, with radio spots in Washington,
DC, the N.Y. market and Detroit. Lefton adds that Webber's
deal with Fila, signed in March, came "too late to get a
signature shoe ready for back-to-school" (BRANDWEEK, 7/21).
