AS IRABU GOES FOR WIN NO. 2, T-SHIRT FRACAS CONTINUES

The "Typhoon Irabu" t-shirts sold outside Yankee
Stadium during Hideki Irabu's debut last Thursday "were
unlicensed by baseball and could be confiscated today,"
sources told Steve Zipay of NEWSDAY. Pro Player Inc. has
reportedly sold $200,000 worth of t-shirts bearing Irabu's
likeness in Modell's stores and in Japan over four days.
But Pro Player and Starter "are still prohibited" from
selling Irabu product items at Yankee Stadium because of a
"dispute" with the Yankees and the MLBPA (NEWSDAY, 7/15).
BONUS BABY: NEWSDAY's Zipay adds that if the Yankees
average 10,000 more fans every time Irabu pitches at home
this season, they "will generate more than $2.7 million in
extra ticket, concession and parking revenues from about
nine dates." Zipay estimates that Irabu's debut gave the
Yankees $676,000 in extra ticket and concession sales and
$15,000 from parking. Zipay: "Not a bad return on
investment for a fifth starter, eh?" (NEWSDAY, 7/15).
