LEAGUE NOTES

Pro golfer Harry Toscano of FL has filed a $9M
antitrust suit against the PGA Tour, the Senior PGA Tour
directors and tour sponsors such as Wendy's, AmEx and
Chrysler. The suit claims the groups have "conspired to
limit the playing field to certain players, thus excluding
Toscano and others" (WASHINGTON POST, 7/15)....Sunday's
Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER examined the state of tennis as
Sports Editor Steve Riley gave suggestions to improve the
pro game. Among them: racket restrictions; making the Davis
Cup more meaningful and unifying the tours. In a sidebar,
Jim Courier dismissed talk of tennis' demise: "We have a lot
of good, young, charismatic players on the men's side coming
up now. Unfortunately, none of them are Americans" (NEWS &
OBSERVER, 7/13)....Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones has been
appointed to the NFL's management council and has given up
his position on the competition committee. He also serves
on the league's TV committee (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/15).
