ROYALS MAY DELAY OWNER SEARCH, LOOK TO UP REVENUE STREAM

Since the '97 season is becoming a "financial
disappointment," Royals President Michael Herman said they
"probably will postpone their quest for a new owner until
next year," according to Charles Crumpley of the K.C. STAR.
The team's Board of Directors "probably will decide at the
end of the season" when to hold a "nationwide solicitation"
of bids for the team. While team execs "had projected" '97
as a "break-even year," team President Herman said the
Royals will "probably" have an operating loss of "several"
million dollars this year. The STAR's Crumpley adds that
the loss is "attributable mainly to the team's payroll,
which is higher than projected, and from attendance, which
is lower than projected." Crumpley adds that team execs
"recently started considering ways to alter Kauffman Stadium
to bring in more revenue, such as enlarging the concession
areas and creating a pricier zone of 'premium seats.'" They
are also eyeing the possibility of producing all radio
     broadcast of games in-house (K.C. STAR, 7/15).
