TYSON-HOLYFIELD REPLAY TO BE SHOWN ON ABC IN AUGUST
Published July 11, 1997
The Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield fight will be replayed
on ABC, as it is paying $1M "for an early-August show
expected to be in prime time," according to Rudy Martzke in
USA TODAY. Showtime and CBS had canceled CBS' August 9
replay, after Showtime "claimed the publicity resulting from
CBS' $750,000 deal affected Showtime's three replays."
ABC's deal will be announced after Showtime's third airing
July 19. Martzke: "In its deal, CBS had the right to match
any network offer Showtime received, but it passed when
presented with the $1 million figure" (USA TODAY, 7/11).
MORE TYSON: The OK Boxing Commission said it would
allow Tyson to fight in its state as long as all the profits
from the bout went to charities benefiting amateur boxing
and underprivileged children (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 7/11).
....Don King issued a statement on the revocation of Tyson's
boxing license: "[I] am not going to second guess the
decision. Instead I am going to do everything I can for
Mike Tyson" (Don King Productions).
