WTA TOUR ENTERS HARDCOURT SEASON RIDING ATTENDANCE WAVE

          The Corel WTA Tour has posted record attendance figures
     so far this year.  Through Wimbledon, 20 of 29 Corel WTA
     Tour events have seen increased and/or record attendance. 
     The total on-site attendance of 2,265,257 is up 5.1% from
     '96 and 10% from '95 after the same number of events.  At
     its three Grand Slam event, the Tour has posted a 3% overall
     increase, including record numbers at the Australian Open
     (391,508) and Wimbledon (436,531).  For the first five U.S.
     events this year, attendance rose 7% over '96.  Overall, the
     Tour has averaged 78,112 per event so far in '97, up more
     than 4,000 per week over '96 (Corel WTA Tour).
