OLYMPIC STADIUM GETTING A NEW TOUPEE? TEFLON ROOF APPROVED
Published July 11, 1997
The province of Quebec approved a C$37M fixed Teflon
roof yesterday for Olympic Stadium, according to Patricia
Brooks of the Montreal GAZETTE. The new 22,000-square-foot
roof will replace "the tattered orange Kevlar covering that
was designed to be retractable but never lived up to
expectations." Revenue from the provincial cigarette tax
will pay for the roof. The project was awarded to U.S.-
based Birdair and Montreal's Rousseau Sauve Warren with
construction set to begin next March and be completed in
October '98 (Montreal GAZETTE, 7/11).
