The City of Oakland and Alameda County are expected to
approve an agreement next week that would officially allow
the Warriors to sell season tickets without PSLs, which
"they have already been doing," according to Renee Koury of
the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. Without PSLs, the county and
city will not receive revenue that would be used to "reduce"
the $140M public debt used to refurbish the Coliseum Arena.
Under the new deal, the Warriors will manage the arena and
will "funnel" revenues from games, other events and the sale
of naming rights to pay off the bonds and arena operating
costs. Warriors General Counsel Robin Baggett said the new
deal keeps the Warriors at the arena for the 30-year life of
the bonds. Revenues will first cover bond payments, "while
the remaining money goes next to operating expenses, and
then to reserves" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 6/19).
NEW LOGO TO PETAL? The Warriors unveiled their new logo
last night, the figure of the "ultimate Warrior" named
"Bolt," with the name "Warriors" underneath. New uniforms
will be V-neck, and blue, yellow, and orange, with a gold
lightning bolt down the side of the jersey and shorts. The
CHRONICLE's David Steele: "The resemblance to the FTD man is
hard to miss" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 6/20).
