NAMES IN THE NEWS

          L.A.-based attorney JOHNNIE COCHRAN has registered with
     the NBPA as a player rep.  His Cochran Sports Group will
     work with Denver-based agent LAMONT SMITH (David Aldridge,
     ESPN SportsZone, 6/12)....JIM BROWN received the "Roy
     Firestone Award" last night in recognition of his ongoing
     efforts on behalf of inner-city children at "An Evening
     Talking Sports" (WSA)....JUSTIN LEONARD, asked how he made
     Cosmopolitan's list of the world's 25 most-eligible
     bachelors: "I have no idea.  They had other athletes in
     there, and they were looking for somebody from golf, I
     guess, and they started going down the list.  And, you know,
     everybody on tour is married, basically.  I guess they got
     to the L's and there I was, single" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
     6/12)....CALVIN and GRANT HILL appeared on ABC's "Good
     Morning America" discussing father-son relationships. 
     Calvin, on his role with the Cowboys consulting players:
     "You're talking about very young people, 22 or 23, who are
     given an inordinant amount of money and who are under a
     microscope in terms of the attention and it's not something
     that one normally prepares for" ("GMA," ABC, 6/12).
